I'm Cruising to Iceland and Svalbard! - Emma Cruises Weekly Newsletter

ad β€’ Greetings from the wonderful Norwegian Star, currently bobbing around near Norway! πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄πŸ˜

The cruise I'm currently on is 12 days long, and we're visiting Svalbard and Iceland, two places that I've never been to before. They've been on my to do list for a veeery long time. πŸ˜‹πŸš’

In Svalbard, the sun doesn't set between the 20th of April and the 22nd of August. AT ALL. Isn't that crazy?! I can't wait to show you more of this adventure. Glad I'm not here in winter when it's dark 24/7! πŸ₯ΉπŸ†

I have cruised with Norwegian more than any other line, but never onboard Star. She was built way back in 2001 and there are lots of things onboard that remind me of the cruises I took as a child/teenager. I feel very at home onboard. πŸ₯°πŸŒ

(You'll see 'ad' or 'paid promotion' on all content about this trip as I'm on a press trip. I'm here to make Norwegian a video about the excursions/destinations for their YouTube channel, then my regular story style and cabin review(s) for mine. Thanks SO much for all your comments/love on my past Norwegian collaborations. It’s because of you I get to experience this and I can’t thank you enough!!) πŸ˜‡β€οΈ

I'm going to try, WiFi dependent of course, to go live on YouTube tomorrow (Friday 13th) at 7pm UK time (2pm Eastern). You'll find that here. πŸ“±πŸ’»

When planning your perfect cruise, there is a lot to think about! From picking the perfect destination to making sure you pack all the essentials, a new cruiser could easily feel overwhelmed.

I recently took a four-day trip down the coast of Norway on the Havila Polaris. Polaris is a Norwegian Coastal Ferry built in 2023.

It was very different to the cruise I'm currently on!

Have you noticed any small errors with your cruises on the Globe? The AIS satellite ship tracking data that we use for the Globe isn’t always perfect.πŸ˜‡β€οΈ

Cleaning it up is a full-time job (in our case, for our team of 17 people), which is exactly why we’re the first to try to build something like The Cruise Globe. πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚

Our system essentially connects the β€˜dots’ of where we know the ship has been. We usually have a ship location every 2 minutes in the data, but it does vary, and depending on how far apart those β€˜dots’ are, there can be little mistakes. 🫒🌎

Please use the β€˜Report a Problem’ button in The Cruise Globe (no matter how small the problem is).

This button allows you to flag any issues at all, directly to our expert map makers. Just click the downwards arrow next to a cruise in your list, and then you’ll see the button. πŸ’»πŸš’

Remember that everyone on a certain cruise sees the same route for it in The Cruise Globe. So if it isn’t perfect for you, it’s not perfect for someone else, too, and we want to fix that. Thanks so much!! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

If you’re considering taking a cruise you may have heard that you can eat in the main dining room or in the Speciality Restaurants onboard.

If you are considering a cruise and are visually impaired, you may be wondering if it is possible.

The simple answer is yes, but there are some things to think about before you make the decision.

If you are taking a cruise, you might be wondering what plug adapters you need. Most cruise ships have American and/or European sockets in the cabins but keeping up with how many of each there are can be confusing.

(Note: Royal Caribbean don't allow these anymore, but I've never had any issue bringing them on my 77 cruises) πŸ˜‡

We are SO close to having First Mate Rolo available to order. All profits will go to the fantastic Luckys Legacy who rescue abused and abandoned dogs in Romania (like my dog Rolo). The below is his final look, cute right!? β€οΈπŸ•

The waitlist is here, please make sure that you're on it because the sales window will only be open for a couple weeks and I don't want you to miss out. I will let you know in these weekly emails too of course, but I'll also send a very obvious email to the waitlist when he's ready with the link to order. πŸ₯³πŸ’»

Hey hey, I hope you're having a lovely week. I'm sending this email from my cabin onboard the Norwegian Star sailing near Iceland! πŸ˜‡πŸš’ I know 'The Sun DOESN'T SET' might not sound possible, but I promise you it is! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ On this cruise, I've been visiting some of the most remote places on earth, some of which are so far north that they have 24-hour sunlight during the summer. 🌀️🌦️ I visited Svalbard (where I took a trip down a coal mine and crawled through a 60cm high tunnel), and there the sun...

My goodness me, what a week it has been! I hope yours is going well. πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡±βš“οΈ This week, my video about the time I spent in Sierra Leone onboard a floating hospital ship went live. πŸ˜‡β€οΈ It was by far the most difficult video to make and edit, but I hope that I managed to put everything I've learnt over the last 8 years of YouTube-ing into it because it's the most important video I've ever made. πŸ₯°πŸ™ŒπŸΌ The picture below is of a fake plastic dummy, by the way, not a real person. I was in the simulation...

After 7 rough days at sea… I'm home! I’m so so glad I took the trip, but so so so glad to be back on land now. I feel so much better. πŸ˜‚β€οΈ I took a transatlantic from New York to Southampton onboard Cunard's Queen Mary 2. I knew the weather might be bad in January, but I figured it'd either be good weather or a good story to tell you. It certainly will be that! πŸ˜…πŸ˜‡ This trip has confirmed to me that cruises with more than a couple of sea days in a row aren’t for me as, unfortunately, I do feel...
